I was and I am still very disappointed that this place has a killer Thai name and killer Thai decor yet isn’t serving up killer Thai food I see so much potential lost. I’m not saying that the place is horrible and the food is bad, I’m more just imaging and dreaming about what I could’ve have done with this place. Back to reality let’s actually discuss Buddhas Belly.
I love the decor, the big open space plan makes it feel very inviting and relaxed. The murals on the wall are absolutely stunning and really add a touch of personality. When the sun sets and candles are lit it feels very romantic and you could almost think you were on a tropical island.
For food I ordered the Mixed Grill, I really wasn’t expecting much especially for the price but I was shaken when it came to the table. Carnivores heaven, loaded with chicken, at least two steaks, onion rings, lamb rissoles, calamari, a huge salad and served with three different condiments. The chicken and steak were perfectly seasoned with a spice rub and cooked extremely well. The lamb rissoles remained moist and had a good salty flavour from the saganaki. The only disappointment was there were only two pieces of calamari, which was coated in a spicy cinnamon rub.
I also order a plate of roasted vegetables because micronutrients guys and I also thought the meat platter wouldn’t be enough. Unfortunately, it was mostly eggplant and zucchini which were coated, more like drowning in way too much oil, this detracted from the flavour of the vegetables and made them not so healthy.
If you’re down for eating your body weight in meat and paying a really really good price for it, then this is the place for you. Buddhas Belly also has a killer happy hour and $1 wings after 10 pm. What more could you want?
